Montpellier at the heart of innovation for food systems

On Monday, April 20 in Montpellier, Mélanie Broin, Director of Agropolis International, and Gianpiero Menza, Senior Manager at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and representative of CGIAR, spoke at the « Food Systems » of the G7 4th Food Systems Working Group meeting .

On this occasion, they presented the origins and development of the International Innovation Hub (IIH), a structuring initiative aimed at accelerating the sustainable transformation of food systems.

A “Hub of Hubs” for Innovation
The International Innovation Hub is defined as an interconnected network of hubs designed to structure regional innovation ecosystems. Its ambition is to create bridges between science, public policy, and entrepreneurship in order to address major agricultural, food, and environmental challenges.

The first operational milestone of this initiative is the launch of the International Innovation Hub West Africa (IIH-WA), which represents a key step in the deployment of the project.

A Collective Dynamic Driven by Montpellier

This project builds on an ecosystem of excellence bringing together numerous academic, scientific, and institutional stakeholders, including CIHEAM-IAMM, CIRAD, INRAE, IRD, Institut Agro Montpellier, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, MedVallée Montpellier, and the University of Montpellier.

Building on these partnerships, the IIH develops new models of scientific collaboration and technology transfer, with a clear objective: to support partners in the Global South in their agricultural, food, and ecological transitions.

An International Ambition

Through this initiative, Montpellier confirms its role as a major international hub in the field of agriculture and sustainable food systems by promoting concrete, collaborative, and high-impact solutions.
